Postcard #119 - INDIA



I also got a postcard from India, only my 2nd one from that country. It is a picture of the Crown Fountain in Brindavan Garden in the city of Mysore. There are 3 stamps on the back, 1 of Dr. B. R. Ambedkar, a writer, economist, scholar and one of the founding fathers of independent India, and 2 of Rajiv Gandhi, the 6th Prime Minister of India. The card took 21 days to get here and traveled 11,535 km.

Postcard #117 - FINLAND



I got a cute Christmas postcard from Finland today. The sender told me that Santa lives in Lapland, Finland in a place called Korvatunturi. Funny, I always thought he lived at the North Pole in Canada! :) There are 3 stamps on the back, 2 shaped stamps that I have gotten before and a very nice Santa stamp. The postcard took 17 days to get here and traveled 4,971 km.

I got a postcard from Germany today. It's a cartoon of "Die Sendung mit der Maus", a German children's tv program. From what I have read it's sort of like Sesame Street in that it teaches young children through songs and clips. There is 1 international stamp on the back. I got a postcard from South Carolina, USA today. It's of a map of the state with interesting sites noted. The text on the back of the card reads:
"Origin of name was in honor of Charles I of England. Nickname: Palmetto State. Capital: Columbia. Mottos: "Prepared in mind & resources" and "While I breathe I hope". Total area: 30,989 square miles."

I am sending my first ever card to Hong Kong. The person I am sending to likes all kinds of cards but she wanted it in an envelope so she can cut off the stamps since she collects stamps. I put this Newfoundland tourism postcard in an envelope and I also included some extra cancelled stamps I have. Postage to Hong Kong is $1.75.

I got my 2nd card ever from Spain today. It shows the Punta Carnero lighthouse (near the city of Algeciras) with the Rock of Gibraltar in the background. There are 2 stamps on the back, 1 showing a dog and garbage can saying "Keep your City Clean" and another of a The Spanish Marbled White butterfly (Melanargia ines).
