I got a postcard from the south of France today. It shows lavender, sunflowers and cicadas, typical things one sees in the south of France according to the person who sent it to me. There is one stamp on the back showing Marie Curie and it says "2011 International Year of Chemistry". It cost .87 Euros to send the postcard, that's about $1.21. It took 19 days to get here and traveled a distance of 4,381 km.
The postcard I sent to Finland was registered today. The woman I sent it to wrote me a nice email thanking me for the card. She loved it and the stamps. It took 15 days to get there and traveled a distance of 5,034 km.
I got another non-postcard in the mail today. Granted it was a very pretty Marjolein Bastin greeting card, but it's not a postcard. There was no stamp on it, just a sticker. It took 9 days to get here and traveled a distance of 4,158 km.
I'm sending a postcard to New Jersey, USA today. It's going to a man (uncommon since I usually send to a woman) and I am sending this neat postcard that I bought at a souvenir shop downtown. Postage to the USA costs $1.03.
I got a postcard from Germany today. It shows the Moritzburg Castle near Dresden. It's a very pretty picture, the kind I like. There was one stamp on the back showing a balloon flower. I've gotten that stamp from Germany before. The postcard took 9 days to get here and traveled a distance of 4,678 km.
I got a card from the Ukraine today. It wasn't a postcard, rather it was a folded greeting card in an envelope. I prefer postcards. The card shows a cartoon mouse dressed in traditional Ukrainian costume. There were 2 stamps on the envelope, one showing wheat and another of a cartoon rabbit. It took 24 days to get here and traveled a distance of 5,764 km.
I got a postcard fro the USA today. It shows several photos from the city of Forks, Washington, population 3175 (that would be a town here, not a city). Forks is popular because it is the setting for the Twilight novels. I don't read them but I know a lot of people who do. The postcard was sent by a 7 year old girl and she had a cute drawing on the back of someone (her?) playing basketball. There were 2 stamps on the back, a butterfly stamp that cost 64¢ and a Calvin & Hobbes stamp that cost 44¢. Very nice stamps. It took 30 days to get here and traveled a distance of 5,096 km.
I am sending a postcard to the Ukraine today. Hopefully there won't be a postal strike! The young girl I am sending the postcard to said she likes dogs so I thought a postcard of a Newfoundland Dog would be a good one to send. Postage to Ukraine costs $1.75.
I also got a postcard from India today. It's a postcard of the Royal Bengal Tiger, a beautiful animal. There are 2 stamps on the back, one of a tiger and one of Indira Gandhi. It took 37 days to get here and traveled a distance of 10,203 km.
The second postcard I got today is from Poland. It shows a picture of 2 horses in the sunset. There are 2 stamps on the back, one showing a house that says "Dwór w Lipkowie k Warszawy". This translates to "Manor in Lipków near Warsaw". A manor house in Poland was a house used or owned by the nobility. The other stamp shows a drawing of a rabbit and some flowers and says "Wielkanoc" which is "Easter". The card took 11 days to get here and traveled a distance of 4,905 km.
I got 3 postcards in the mail today, yippee! The first is from Finland. The sender wrote on the back that the scene is a typical Finnish landscape and that they have thousands of lakes. It looks and sounds like Newfoundland! There are 3 stamps on the back and they are all shaped stamps, very nice and unusual. One is in the shape of the country of Finland and the other two are four sided stamps sort of like a flower. The postcard took 11 days to get here and traveled a distance of 4,972 km.
I got a cool postcard from Taiwan today. It is in the shape of the island country, my first shaped card. I haven't seen any shaped cards here. The postcard shows Long Shan Temple in Lugang. The sender told me it is 300 years old. There were 2 stamps on the back, one of flowers and one of a beetle on a leaf. It took 18 days to get here and traveled a distance of 12,032 km.
I got a postcard from St. Petersburg, Russia today. It's a postcard showing the Church of the Spilled Blood. It certainly is an elaborate looking church - beautiful architecture. There are 3 stamps on the back. One showing the Kremlin (a common stamp since it's been on every postcard I've gotten from Russia so far), one of a fox and one of the 75th anniversary of the birth U.A. (Yuri) Gagarin, the world's first astronaut. It took 13 days to get here and traveled a distance of 5,259 km.
I'm sending a postcard to New Zealand today. New Zealand is a small country with a little more than 1000 people participating in Postcrossing so it was nice to draw an address from that country. The woman I am sending to said she would like a funny card so I am sending this "Happy Bunny" card. Postage to New Zealand is $1.75.
I got a postcard from Germany today. It shows the historic town hall in Bocholt. There was no stamp on the back but rather a postage sticker. Canada Post has those as well but they're usually used for parcels and items that cost a lot to send. It cost .75 Euros to send it, that's about $1.03. It took 15 days to get here and traveled a distance of 4,182 km.
