Postcard #38 - FRANCE

I got a postcard from France today, another one that was sitting in a post office for a couple of weeks. It's a postcard of the Modern Art Museum in Saint-Étienne Métropole. There are 2 stamps on the back showing a woman's face with stars. I didn't know who she was so I looked it up and it turns out she is Marianne and has been used on most French definitive stamps since 1944. I also found this information:

Marianne is a symbol of Republican France. A Marianne is a bust of a proud and determined woman wearing a Phrygian cap. She symbolises the attachment of the common citizens of the revolution to the Republic - Marianne is liberty, egality and fraternity.
I love postcrossing not only for the postcards but for the education! It's always nice to learn new things. The postcard took 29 days to get here and traveled a distance of 4,304 km.

Postcard #37 - USA

The postal strike is over so that means I will start to get postcards again. I got this one from Florida today. It was probably sitting in the post office for 2 weeks! It's a lovely card of a typical Florida beach. There are 3 very pretty stamps on the back showing flax, sage & oregano. It took 25 days to get here and traveled a distance of 3,381 km.

Sent Postcard #50 - FINLAND

I am also sending a postcard to Finland. The person I am sending it to likes postcards about books and illustrations from children's books so I thought this postcard of Anne of Green Gables would be perfect. I bought it in PEI several years ago. Postage to Finland costs $1.75.

Sent Postcard #49 - GERMANY

The postal strike is over so I can start sending postcards again! I am sending one to Germany today. I chose this postcard of L'Anse aux Meadows because the person I am sending it to likes postcards from UNESCO world heritage sites. It's  a pre-paid postcard that I bought at the post office a couple of weeks ago. Postage to Germany costs $1.75 but this postcard cost $1.89 which is a great deal.

Beauty & the Beast Postcards

I picked up an inexpensive book of postcards of the movie Beauty & the Beast. The postcards are sturdy and colourful and will be good for kids who are postcrossers.

Postal Strike

Well, Canada Post is still on strike/workers locked out. It sure is disrupting postcrossing! My last received postcard was June 8th. I still have some traveling, but to countries like China and Russia where mail delivery is slow. I also mailed some shortly before the strike that are probably sitting in a post office somewhere. I'll be happy when the strike is over and I can resume my postcrossing hobby. In the meantime I am still on the lookout for cute postcards and if I find any I'll share them here.

Sent Postcard #47 - CANADA

The second card I am sending today is going to a woman in Quebec, Canada. I am sending this card that I picked up at the tourist information centre downtown. It's an "ad card" (not everyone likes those) and shows colourful downtown rowhouses with an accordion in the row. I think it's cute. Postage in Canada costs 59¢.

Sent Postcard #46 - USA

I am sending 2 postcards today. The first one is going to a family of 5 in Pennsylvania, USA. I chose this card of Cabot Tower. The mom of the family said she was hoping to sneak in a few geography lessons through postcrossing so I think they can make a history and geography lesson out of this postcard. Postage to the USA is $1.03.

40th Postcard Registered

The postcard I sent to California, USA, was registered today. It only took 6 days to get there and traveled a distance of 5,481 km.

Sent Postcard #45 - POLAND

I am sending a postcard to Poland today. So far the rotating strike by Canada Post workers doesn't seem to have affected Postcrossing very much. Let's hope it stays that way. I am sending to a young man and chose this postcard that shows downtown St. John's. I bought the postcard at the post office; it's pre-stamped and good for anywhere in the world. Postage to Poland costs $1.75, but I only paid $1.89 for the postcard so that's a really good deal.

The postcard I sent to Japan was registered today after traveling for 16 days and a distance of 10,680 km.

I got a "postcard" from the Netherlands today. Again, it was a greeting card in an envelope instead of a postcard. It has a picture of a windmill on it. There were 3 stamps on the envelope, 1 of a comic strip (with words I don't understand), 1 of a shorebird and 1 of a woman's face. It only took 7 days to get here and traveled a distance of 4,095 km.

Postcard #35 - USA

The other postcard I got today was from Utah in the USA. It is a beautiful postcard of a barn against a fall backdrop, photograph by Tom Till. There are 3 stamps on the back, 1 for 61¢ of a wedding cake, 1 for 17¢ of a bighorn sheep and 1 for 2¢ of Navajo jewelry. The postcard came from a 10 year old boy. He wrote that he likes the Utah Jazz and that maybe I like the Blue Jays or the Raptors or for hockey Maple Leafs, Canadiens, Oilers, Senators and Canucks. He certainly knows his teams! He had a drawing on the back too, but I can't quite tell what it is. Batman with a moustache maybe? The postcard took 10 days to get here and traveled a distance of 4,663 km.

Postcard #34 - PHILIPPINES

I got 2 postcards today, one from the Philippines, my first from that country. There are only 973 people in the Philippines who participate in Postcrossing so getting a postcard from there is not common. The card shows artwork and on the back it says "Read the new edition of Noli Me Tangere and discover the world that made our world". Noli Me Tangere is the title of a Filipino novel by José Rizal. The person who sent me the card wrote on the back that the Philippines has 7107 islands. Wow! There are 3 stamps on the back, 2 showing a colourful tropical clownfish and one with the name of the novel, "Noli Me Tangere". It took 24 days to get here and traveled a distance of 13,085 km.
