Postcard #63 - UNITED KINGDOM



My first postcard from the United Kingdom came today! I was wondering why I hadn't received one earlier. It's a painting of the Battersea Power Station in London. There is one stamp on the back, a typical English stamp of the Queen that cost 76 pence (about $1.21). The postcard took 47 days to get here (even though according to the cancellation it only took 6 days to go through the mail) and traveled 3,746 km.

Sent Postcard #73 - SLOVENIA


I am sending a postcard to Slovenia today, the first time I have sent one there. The man I am sending to only collects postcards of cities. Since I don't have any postcards showing St. John's right now I decided to send this postcard of Vancouver. Postage to Slovenia costs $1.75.

The postcard I sent to Belarus was registered today. It took 20 days to get there and traveled 5,434 km.

Sent Postcard #72 - USA


I am sending a postcard to Oregon, USA today. The person I am sending to likes the Aurora Borealis and I just happened to have this postcard of a painting of the Northern Lights by A.Y. Jackson. Postage to the USA is $1.03.

Postcard #62 - POLAND



I also got a postcard from Poland today. It shows Chojnik Castle, a castle located above the town of Sobieszów in Poland. The person who sent it to me said she can see the castle from her house. There are 2 stamps on the back, 1 of a manor house and one of Bratislava (which is the capital of Slovakia). The postcard took 10 days to get here and traveled 4,813 km.

Postcard #61 - GERMANY



I got a postcard from a woman named Karin from Germany today. It shows 3 photos of Bamberg, a city in Bavaria, Germany. Bamberg is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. There is a printed postage sticker on the back rather than a stamp. The postcard took 17 days to get here and traveled 4,540 km.

Postcard #60 - FINLAND



I received my 60th postcard today and it is from Finland. It is my first handmade card and is pretty. There is one round stamp on the back of a flower. It took 17 days to get here and traveled 4,935 km.

Postcard #59 - RUSSIA



I got a beautiful postcard from Russia today showing St. Basil's Cathedral in Moscow. There are 5 lovely stamps on the back as well (leaving not a lot of room for writing). The first stamp of a man's face is Mikhail Zharov, an actor from the movie "Peter I". The 2nd stamp of a man is Nicolay Kriuchkov from the movie "Tractor Drivers". There is also a small stamp of a hare, one of a letter and one which shows Aleksandr III (I think). The postcard took 43 days to get here and traveled 5,859 km.

Sent Postcard #71 - TAIWAN


I am sending a postcard to Taiwan today. The girl I am sending to likes clocks and fairy tales (among other things) so I chose this postcard from Beauty & the Beast. Postage to Taiwan costs $1.75.

Postcard #58 - CHINA



I got a postcard from China today. It shows a view of The Forbidden City from a hill in Jingshan Park. The forbidden City is in Beijing and was built between 1406 to 1420 as  the home of emperors and their households, as well as the ceremonial and political center of Chinese government. There is one large, pretty stamp on the back with Chinese characters. The postcard only took 12 days to get here and traveled 10,250 km.

The postcard I sent to the Ukraine was registered after 49 days and 5,394 km.

Postcard #57 - TAIWAN



I got a postcard from Taiwan today. It's from  a highschooler and is of a black cat. It says "Meets the Cat" on the postcard but I don't know what that means. There are 3 stamps on the back, 2 of a bird (a common stamp from Taiwan) and 1 of flowers (Cypripedium formosanum or Japanese lady’s slipper) . The postcard took 14 days to get here and traveled 11,994 km.

I got a postcard from the Netherlands today that shows windmills. I am hoping to travel to Holland in the next couple of years so I am always happy to get a postcard showing scenery from there. There is one stamp on the back, the typical international stamp from Holland. It took 9 days to get here and traveled 4,091 km.

I got a postcard from Romania today. It's of a blue morpho butterfly and there are 2 stamps on the back. Both are of pottery, one says "Oala" & "Transilvania" and the other says "Curtea de Arges". The postcard took 28 days to get here and traveled 5,911 km.
